College Survival Seminar (ACS 100) 1 Credits
This course, required of all first-year matriculating students will provide students with the academic and student support services available at RCC. The course is also designed to promote awareness of issues critical to student success within and beyond Roxbury Community College. This course will address educational plans and concerns and help the student clarify his or her career goals.
The College Experience (ACS 102) 3 Credits
This course is designed to provide students with the tools for improving course work in all subject areas. Students will explore learning strategies for academic success in all subject areas through extensive reading, writing, and classroom discussions. The course will also promote awareness of academic and student support resources available at RCC. This course can be used as a general elective and satisfies the College Survival Seminar requirement.
Career Planning (ACS 200) 1 Credits
This course will provide students with the necessary tools to successfully begin the process of discovering their interests, values, needs, learning styles, and skills as they relate to career decisions. Through writing exercises, readings, lectures, research, guest speakers, and visits to local employers, students will gain insight, clarity and direction in setting realistic goals and making informed career decisions.
Internship I (ACS 298) 3 Credits
This three-credit course is offered during the fall and spring semesters. It is designed for students to gain hands-on experience, a resume builder and an opportunity to network. Students will develop a resume, cover letter and references prior to placement. Students will meet with the Internship Coordinator and an Assigned Internship Faculty Advisor from their program of study during the course of the semester to monitor the interns’ progress. Students are required to complete 150 hours (minimum of 10 hours per week), assigned readings, a mid-term project and a final project that will include an oral presentation. Students currently employed in their program of study may be eligible to combine an internship with employment.
Internship II (ACS 299) 3 Credits
Course Description: Students who have completed the General Internship I and would like to extend their internship experience the next academic semester.
