Men’s Basketball

The Tigers Men’s Basketball program has a rich history of winning not only on the state and regional levels, but we have the honor of being the 2000 NJCAA National Champions. RCC Men’s Basketball has produced a significant amount of Regional team members, Regional All-Stars, NJCAA All-Tournament team members, NJCAA All-Americans and Coaches of the Year. In recent history, the Tigers have made national tournament appearances in 2010 (5th place) and 2012 (7th place).

Kwami Green, Men’s Head Basketball Coach
Birth Place: Boston, MA

College: Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA)

Coach Kwami Green is entering his seventh year as the Men’s Head Basketball Coach at Roxbury Community College. Last season, Green led RCC to a 11-16 record won the MCCAC State Championships.

During his years at RCC, Green has lead the Tigers to two NJCAA National Tournaments and has produced 4 NJCAA ALL American's and 16 region XXI team members.
Prior to RCC, Green was the Men’s Varsity Coach at Brighton High School. During his eight seasons at Brighton, Green amassed a 79-63 regular season record, leading his team to the post-season on five occasions. Brighton was crowned the Southside Division Champions during the 2006-2007 season.

Prior to working at Brighton High School, Green spent three seasons as the Men’s Head Varsity Coach at Trinity High School in Newton.

A graduate of Brookline High School, Green attended Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA) where he earned his degree in psychology and liberal arts. For the past 15 years, he has been a counselor for the Boston Public Schools System. He is now a Dean at the Dever McCormack School in Dorchester.

Women’s Basketball

The Lady Tigers Women’s Basketball team has a rich history of winning on the State and Regional levels. Coach Mark Leszczyk is entering his eighth year with the Roxbury Community College Women’s Basketball Team. Last season, Leszczyk led the Lady Tigers to a 19-7 regular season record, a MCCAC Conference Championship, Region XXI Championship and An appearance at the NJCAA National Tournament, where they placed 3rd.

Throughout the past 7 years at Roxbury, the lady Tigers have been nationally ranked in the top 10 the last 4 years and in the top 5 the last 3 years
Leszczyk is a Glocester, R.I., resident with several years of coaching experience. He came to RCC in 2007 after three years of coaching Dean College’s Women’s Basketball Team, which he guided to a 55-21 overall record and back-to-back appearances in the NJCAA Region XXI Div II Championship Games.

During his Dean tenure, Leszczyk helped two of his players earn Academic All-American honors and several players earn scholarships to Division I and Division II colleges that play at the NCAA level. Six players received Academic Achievement awards from Dean.

Leszczyk founded Rhode Island’s Ocean State Pride Amateur Athletic Union program. He is also the Region I Northeast Representative for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

During his tenure at RCC, Coach Leszczyk has had an overall record of 142-45. His Lady Tigers have had 5 consecutive Undefeated MCCAC seasons. (09, 10, 11, 12, 13), 3 straight Regional Championships (10, 11, 12), 3 appearances National Tournament reached finals (10,11,12) and have produced 4 All Americans: Jesika Holmes (2010), Tyler Kimball (2011), Shannon Samuels (2012) and Amanda Hoover (2014). He has also received coaching accolades such as, Region XXI Coach of the Year (2009), Rawlings National Junior College Coach of the Year (2010) and District F Coach of the Year (10, 11).

Justine Grace-McCarthy
Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach
Birthplace: Boston, MA
High School: Fontbonne Academy
College: The College of the Holy Cross and Boston University

 

Justine Grace-McCarthy was born in Boston and raised in Milton, MA. Justine attended Fontbonne Academy in Milton where she was a 3-sport student athlete, playing soccer, basketball and track & field. She was an All-Scholastic in basketball her senior year and went on to play Division I basketball at The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Justine graduated in 2001 with a degree in Psychology. She began her coaching career at her alma mater Fontbonne Academy as an assistant coach.

In 2004 Justine took a break from coaching to pursue a Master's degree at Boston University. In 2006 she graduated with a Master's in Mental Health & Behavioral Medicine with a specialization in Sports Psychology. Justine worked in the mental health field for a couple of years as she pursued her professional license in counseling. In 2008 Justine started working for the Boston Public Schools as a guidance counselor. She worked for English High School for three years and was also the head girls basketball coach. Justine was named Coach of the Year for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons by her peers.

Justine is now a guidance counselor at the McCormack Middle School in Dorchester and is also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. This is her second year as an assistant coach at Roxbury Community College.

Track & Field

RCC Track & Field has been extremely successful. As one of only a few community colleges in the region with a track team, RCC has been consistently producing NJCAA All-Americans (6 total). We have also had 3 NJCAA National Champions in their events, including an NJCAA record-holder in the 200m dash. The team has also had an NJCAA Academic All-American.

Tommie Campbell, Jr. is entering his fifth season as the Head Coach of the Men's and Women's Track & Field Team at Roxbury Community College. He is certified as a USATF Level 1 Coach.

During his years at RCC, Coach Campbell has produced 6 NJCAA All-American's including 3 national champions.

Campbell joined RCC after four seasons of coaching the Track & Field Program at the John D. O'Bryant School of Math and Science in Roxbury, MA. He also previously coached at Brighton High School (Brighton, MA). During his tenure at RCC, he has coached two National Champions and six All-Americans.

Coach Campbell earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical and Secondary Education from the University of Rhode Island (URI), where he was nationally recognized as a Track & Field athlete. In 1991, he was named the New England Track & Field Athlete of the Year, and the following year became the URI record holder in the Long Jump. He was a six-time New England Collegiate Triple Jump Champion, and, in 1993, Campbell was a United States Olympic Festival Participant and a World Champion Trials Qualifier in the Triple Jump.

A resident of Boston, Campbell currently teaches at UMana Middle School Academy.

Men's Soccer

The RCC Men’s soccer team is one of the most internationally diverse teams at the College. Last season the team consisted of students from various backgrounds such as Nigeria, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Trinidad, Jamaica and the US. Two seasons ago, we also had the honor of having the first female athlete that competed on a men’s team as well. Over the past 7 years, the RCC soccer team has produced 8 Regional team members.

Coach Chris Suchorski is entering his first season as Head Coach of the Roxbury Community College Men's Soccer Team. Coach Suchorski also works for America Scores, which is a program that integrates soccer and poetry.

Suchorski, a former athlete at E. Bridgewater HS and Mt. Ida College, has previously been an Assistant/ Goalie Coach at Newbury College, as well as worked various soccer camps.
