Boston, MA. (June 26, 2007) -- Roxbury Community College (RCC) freshman second baseman Rommel Pequero has earned All New England Team honorable mention recognition from the National Junior College Athletic Association for his stellar play during the 2007 baseball season.
Pequero, who hails from Dorchester, MA, earned the recognition for his play at second base, but also played shortstop and pitcher for the Division III RCC baseball Tigers.
Playing in every inning of every game, Pequero led the team in runs-batted-in with 12 and hits with 22, and was the team’s best defensive player with only five errors in 77 chances. His .349 bating average was third best on the team and he hit safely in 15 out of the team’s 20 games.
“Rommel has great fundamentals and possesses unbelievable poise and leadership ability, especially for a freshman,” said head baseball Coach Ed. “He was the glue that held us together.”
The Tigers finished the season with record of 4 wins and 16 losses in the league’s Region 21 Division. Neal is considering naming Pequero to one of the team’s two captain spots next year.
