2018 Commencement Speaker Announcement

Representative Jeffrey Sánchez to Speak at Roxbury Community College Commencement Ceremony

Representative Jeffrey Sánchez will serve as the keynote speaker at the 43rd Roxbury Community College (RCC) Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 18, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. Representative Sánchez will join RCC President Valerie Roberson, members of the RCC Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students, and families to celebrate the academic success of RCC students.

“We are thrilled that Representative Jeffrey Sánchez, chair of House Committee on Ways and Means, has agreed to deliver the keynote speech at our commencement ceremony,” said Valerie Roberson, president of Roxbury Community College “Representative Sánchez has a background that mirrors the stories of so many of our students. I’m sure his path to success will encourage and empower our students as they move forward in their academic and professional careers.”

Jeffrey Sánchez grew up in public housing in Mission Hill, where his mother was a community activist who successfully organized with neighbors to demand better housing conditions from the Boston Housing Authority. He currently represents the communities of Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, and Brookline as State Representative, where he has focused on ensuring access to universal healthcare, violence prevention, and affordable housing throughout his tenure.

“Roxbury Community College played an important role in my early life,” said Representative Jeffrey Sánchez. “And now, RCC students of all backgrounds are leading the way in the life sciences, early education, and our community. I’m excited to return to campus and celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2018.”

The Commencement Ceremony will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m., at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center. The ceremony is open to the public.
