Letter to Students & Alumni About Current Job Market

The Center of Career Development is a centralized center serving the entire campus community. We work with students and alumni from all academic disciplines and degree programs.

The 2012 Roxbury Community College Spring 2012 Job, Internship and Volunteer Fair is your chance to explore full-time, part-time jobs, internships, volunteer and summer job opportunities with employers representing a broad spectrum of professions.

Typically we host over 35 companies and this is your chance to both network with them and to explore opportunities. Each organization is typically represented by one or two representatives who staff an information table. They can talk to you about their organization, job, internship and volunteer opportunities and they may know people in other organizations that interest you.

In order to make the best impression, here are 5 important things that you should know:

  1. Review the list of participating organizations prior to the event and think of some questions you’d like to ask them.
  2. Professional dress is expected. While we won’t turn you away at the door, if you are not dressed professionally it will reflect negatively on you according to employers that we’ve asked.
  3. Bring multiple printed copies of your resume.
  4. Practice introducing yourself/your elevator speech/pitch.
  5. Don’t assume. An organization may not be in your profession, but that doesn’t mean that the representatives don’t know or do business with an organization that is. Anyone in the room is a potential networking contact for you.
