RCC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM EARNS NATIONAL PLAYOFF BERTH

Team Captures Region 21 Championships for 2nd Year in a Row

Roxbury Community College (RCC) Women’s Basketball Team earned a playoff spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Basketball Tournament after beating UConn Avery Point 61-47 on March 4. The RCC Women’s Basketball Team, with a 26-4 record and ranked number 3 by the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III polls, earned their second consecutive berth to the NJCAA Tournament. 

In the semi-final game against Quinsigamond Community College on March 3, the RCC team was led with a balanced scoring attack by three players: Tyler Kimball, Siara Lowry and Brittany Allen who all scored 15 points. Sophomore Co-Captain Tyler Kimball chipped in12 rebounds while former New Mission’s High School standout Mieshia Reynolds had 5 assists and 12 points. In the Championship game, Co-Captain Siara Lowry poured in 12 points while Reynolds had 9 points and 5 assists.

“Qualifying for the national tournament for consecutive years is a tremendous accomplishment for the team, the College and all our supporters. It shows consistency and we hope to bring home that National Championship that eluded us last year,” said Head Coach Mark Leszczyk.

The team will depart for Rochester, Minnesota on Wednesday, March 14, and will be one of eight teams trying to win the National Championship.
