All new students to Roxbury Community College are required to take placement tests in three subject areas: English, Math, and Science. The placement test is used to evaluate students’ skills in the subject areas mentioned above.

Students will not receive a “passing” or “failing” grade for these tests. The evaluations are important because they determine the correct level courses in which students will be able to register. Non-native English speakers with limited proficiency in English must take the Roxbury Community College English as a Second Language (ESL) Placement Test.

All tests take approximately two (2) hours to complete. Once students have completed the tests, they will receive a Placement Report—which will be reviewed by an advisor—indicating the courses for which they should register.

In addition, non-native English speakers with limited proficiency in English must take the Roxbury Community College 'English as a Second Language' (ESL) Placement test. Non-native speakers of English may take the Roxbury Community College math test if they place into advanced level ESL classes.
