Now in my sixth year as president of Roxbury Community College, I continue to be amazed
and proud of the progress our institution has made. From our transformed
facilities to our nationally recognized programs, RCC is truly becoming a beacon of
academic excellence.
In December, the college community was thrilled to learn that RCC was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Bellwether Award in the category of Instructional Programs and Services in recognition of the work completed by the math department to eliminate developmental courses from the curriculum. Congratulations to our deeply devoted mathematics faculty and staff, who are well deserving of this national recognition.
The recognition of our math department is just one of the ways in which our STEM programs continue to excel. In this edition of the RCC Gazette, you will learn more about our new agreement with Cape Cod Community College for its Aviation Technology Maintenance Program, our own Smart Building Technology Program, and more. You will also have the opportunity to get to know the exceptional women of color who work in STEM positions at RCC.
In September, we received the results of our Center for Community College Student Engagement Survey (CCSSE). We were pleased to learn that RCC students showed above average engagement levels across all meaningful metrics, including active and collaborative learning and student effort. The photos and summaries of student activities in this edition help to show what that data looks like, in practice.
As you read this edition of the RCC Gazette, I hope that you are as impressed as I with our continued success. Stay warm in these cold winter months, and I look forward to seeing you on campus.
