Reggie Lewis Center Update – July 2021

Reggie Lewis Center Building

Dear Friends,

I hope all is well and that you are enjoying the warm summer weather!

CIC Health’s vaccination site at the Reggie Lewis Center is now closed; over 164,000 vaccine doses were administered at the Reggie Lewis Center. We thank CIC Health for its efforts over the past few months.

Now that the vaccination site is closed, the College will work with contractors on multiple renovation projects that will require the Reggie Lewis Center to remain closed until the high school track season begins in November 2021. Scheduled renovations include replacing the floor and bleachers in the gym, replacing the bleachers in the Field House, replacing the Center’s HVAC system, enhancing the Reggie Lewis Center Plaza hardscape and landscape, and more.

The College is currently reviewing all policies and operations to ensure safe and efficient operations and we have hired a consultant to guide us. Our goal is to create a new structure that will continue to prioritize high school track and RCC athletics while adding new fitness classes and a new sports management curriculum. Our consultant, Jerry Foster, MS, ATC, C.S.C.S. from Anser Advisory will oversee renovations to the Center and provide general support as needed.

We know that many community organizations and local schools were hoping to hold events at the Reggie Lewis Center this fall. While the Center is closed, we will work with community organizations to determine if there are alternative on-campus spaces for those events. If you have submitted a request to use the Reggie Lewis Center for a fall activity, RCC staff will be in touch soon to identify and discuss an alternative venue at RCC.

Likewise, we recognize that there’s a renewed desire to access health and fitness classes and equipment at the Reggie. While the Center must remain fully closed during renovations, the College is pleased to offer both in-person and virtual fitness classes beginning in the fall 2021 semester. Information on classes and registration will be posted on the Reggie Lewis Center website, soon.

We look forward to unveiling the renovated Reggie Lewis Center in November 2021. We are excited to host high school track and field practices and meets, RCC athletic events, and other activities at the Center before the end of this calendar year.

Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to welcoming you back to the Center when renovations are complete.

Best Regards,

Dr. Valerie Roberson
President, Roxbury Community College
