CARES Act

In accordance with to Section 18004a)(1) of the CARES Act, Roxbury Community College distributed CARES Act Emergency funds to all eligible students. As of July 17, 2020, RCC distributed all of the $838,572.00 allocation earmarked for students. Eligibility to receive CARES Act Emergency Funds was based on the student’s PELL EFC, and the amount by the number of credit hours enrolled in the Spring 2020 semester. This resulted in approximately 896 award payments directly to students.

Roxbury Community College’s Implementation of CARES Act Funds:

  1. RCC signed and returned the Certification and Agreement on May 18, 2020.
  2. The total amount of funds provided to students was $838,572, equal to 50% of the funds received by the College. All funds were distributed to students by July 17, 2020.

Additional Information on CARES Act

The federal government recently enacted the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES), which provides emergency grant funds to college students via the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.  These funds are meant to help students pay for extraordinary expenses during the pandemic. RCC calculated CARES act allocations to students based on spring 2020 enrollment and EFC (Expected Family Contribution) range.  Students who receive funds can use those funds to cover expenses including but not limited to food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, childcare, or other educational expenses. Students were notified of their allocations via email.  Any questions can be directed to Pamela Lomax, Executive Vice President, Compliance and Operations, at plomax@rcc.mass.edu.

Per federal guidelines, RCC is posting its expenditure report for the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund. Updated expenditure reports will be posted on an as available basis:
