Men’s Basketball

The Tigers Men’s Basketball program has a rich history of winning not only on the state and regional levels, but we have the honor of being the 2000 NJCAA National Champions. RCC Men’s Basketball has produced a significant amount of Regional team members, Regional All-Stars, NJCAA All-Tournament team members, NJCAA All-Americans and Coaches of the Year. In recent history, the Tigers have made national tournament appearances in 2010 (5th place) and 2012 (7th place).

Albert Hayle Bio

“I am truly humbled and honored to be the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Roxbury Community” said Hayle.  “This is a life changing opportunity for me... it’s a dream come true to be a head coach on the college level at an institution that’s a staple in the community.  Thank you to President Roberson, Vice President Regner, Dean Oroz and Director of Athletics Jelani Townsell for this tremendous opportunity.”

Albert Hayle has over 9 years of college coaching experience (Assistant Coach at Emmanuel College, Umass Boston, and Newbury College) and high school coaching experience (Head Boys Basketball Coach at Dracut Senior High School).  Albert is also a renowned basketball skill development expert throughout the greater Boston area and established a basketball skill development program called Rise Athletics, LLC.  He also has a passion for working with youth in Boston and has over 10 years of experience working within the non-profit sector with a focus on educational advancement, community outreach, youth development, and leadership.  Albert recently established his own nonprofit iriseaboveit, inc. with the goal of providing educational services to young people by uplifting them with resources and tools that will help them develop necessary life skills and knowledge to make healthier life decisions.

Albert Hayle had an outstanding playing career at Emmanuel College where he was a 1,000 point scorer, 4 year captain, and 4 year MVP.  In 2014, Coach Hayle was the first male athlete to be inducted into the Emmanuel College Athletics Hall of Fame.

“I’m extremely excited to have Albert Hayle as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Roxbury Community College” said Townsell.  “Albert will be a great role model and leader for our student-athletes.  He was a stellar athlete at Emmanuel College which is why he was inducted into their Hall of Fame.  He also has an outstanding coaching background.  Most importantly, his passion to connect and work with youth in the local Boston area speaks volumes about his character.” 

Albert earned his Bachelor's Degree in Child Development from Emmanuel College and his Master’s Degree (MSW) in Social Work at Wheelock College.

Women’s Basketball

The Lady Tigers Women’s Basketball team has a rich history of winning on the State and Regional levels. RCC Women’s Basketball has produced a significant amount of Regional team members, Regional All-Stars, NJCAA All-Tournament team members, NJCAA All-Americans and Coaches of the Year. In recent history, the Lady Tigers have made national tournament appearances in 2011 (2nd place), 2012 (2nd place) and 2013 (3rd place).

Track & Field

RCC Track & Field has been extremely successful. As one of only a few community colleges in the region with a track team, RCC has been consistently producing NJCAA All-Americans (6 total). We have also had 3 NJCAA National Champions in their events, including an NJCAA record-holder in the 200m dash. The team has also had an NJCAA Academic All-American.

Saleena Rashed Bio

A former member of the Northeastern University track and field program, Rashed will work with both the men’s and women’s program this season.  While at Northeastern, she was amongst the all-time leaders in both the indoor 55 and 60 meter hurdles. 

Rashed also spent a season at UMass Boston as an Assistant Coach for the 2014-2015 Season. On her off time, Rashed is a volunteer coach at Metropolis Youth Inc.  She currently plans, schedules, and offers travel-related expertise to members’ guardians and is responsible for seeking donations and sponsorship from major corporations. 

“I’m excited to have Saleena join us as the Head Men’s & Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Coach” said Townsell.  “Her experience as a former Division I athlete and coaching experience at NCAA and High School level is extremely valuable to the track and field program and also to the Athletic Department”.  “Saleena’s leadership, professionalism, and passion for helping student-athletes succeed on and off the field speaks volumes about her character and commitment.  It’s great to have Saleena at RCC.”

Saleena received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications from Northeastern University.
