The Roxbury Community College (RCC) Community mourns the passing of Melvin H. King, educator, youth worker, social activist, community organizer and developer, elected politician, and author. One of RCC’s celebrated Pioneers, Mr. King’s tireless advocacy for Boston residents shaped the city we know today; including the establishment and growth of RCC.
RCC is committed to ensuring that every student who matriculates can feel successful. RCC’s SUCCESS (Supporting Urgent Community College Equity Through Student Services) Program is part of the Commonwealth’s overall SUCCESS initiative to support underserved and historically underrepresented students. Through the SUCCESS Program, RCC brought in Dropout Academy founder and CEO Kurt Faustin to run a six-week mental health and emotional wellness program at RCC.
In recognition of its 50th Anniversary, Roxbury Community College (RCC) unveiled a series of moving portraits by renowned Boston photographer Lou Jones and RCC photographer Phuong Tang honoring the Pioneers who have significantly contributed to the College’s success. The list includes 49 individuals nominated by the greater community, with the 50th Pioneer representing the collective contributions of the Greater Roxbury community.
