FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students certain rights
with respect to their educational records. Students are informed of their rights under
this act through the College Catalog and the Student Handbook.
Directory Information
RCC has designated the following student information as directory information:
- Name
- Major, including the division or program in which the student is enrolled.
Directory information may be released by the College to a requesting third-party without
a student’s prior written consent. A student must notify the College Registrar, in
writing, within two (2) weeks of the beginning of each academic semester if he/she/they
do not wish to have any or some of his/her/their student information designated as
directory information.
Disclosure of Information
A student can waive his/her/their FERPA rights (one time or open ended) by providing
the College authorization to release specifically identified information directly
to a third-party (for example, family member or potential employer).
To request a release, complete the “Consent to Release Education Records” form and submit it to the Registrar’s Office in Building 2, Room 202.
