English

Students with an interest in writing and literature should consider majoring in English. Standard composition courses ensure students are well-grounded in fundamentals of reading, writing, and critical thinking, while introducing students to advanced research methods. Literature courses, which also serve as Humanities electives for students in other programs, offer cultural knowledge of globally-informed subjects, like Contemporary Short Stories and African-American Literature.

The English major pathway directly matches the MassTransfer A2B pathways through inclusion of specific required courses and several elective options. Many students who choose an Associate's in English at RCC plan to transfer to a four-year institution, with goals of attending school for journalism, publishing, law, and careers in nonprofit work.
