The Social Sciences department at Roxbury Community College offers a multi-disciplinary
approach to understanding political, social, economic, and psychological issues in
both contemporary and historical contexts. Through a diverse offering of courses in
psychology, sociology, history, economics, political science, and cultural anthropology,
students develop a wide range of skills designed to help them think critically, conduct
research, solve problems, and contribute to society in meaningful ways. Guided by
a commitment to sustainability, social justice, civic engagement, and community involvement,
our department has played a key role in several initiatives and programs at the College,
including the Urban Sustainability Advocacy Social Science Concentration, the Honors
Program, and the RCC Community Garden-Civic Learning Project. Upon successful completion
of the Program, students will be eligible to transfer to another college or university,
which will continue to prepare them for a variety of professional careers in education,
law, government, health care, social sciences, social science research, for the non-profit
sector, and the private sector.
